Elko, NV – Kenworth employees gathered with their family and friends, representatives from Hughes General Contractors, and Elko officials at the Kenworth Sales Company Elko location groundbreaking on July 25th. After 9 years of planning, construction on the expanded location is underway.
“Finally things came together and some stars aligned and we’re really looking forward to putting this new facility out here,” said Mike McKay, District Manager for Kenworth Sales Company.
“[We’re excited] to facilitate business and grow our customers and serve our customers,” McKay went on to say. “Thanks to all of our employees for coming up today, glad to have you here, glad you’re a part of our team.”
Kenworth Sales Company veteran and Service Manager at the Elko Location, Ted Prescott looks forward to working at the new location, “It certainly will be an upgrade from what we have currently,” he said.
The building will be located at 4224 Ruby Drive and is designed to be 18,000 square-feet, more than four times the size of the current Elko location. It will house eight service bays with a 6,000 square-foot warehouse, adding about six new jobs to the current staff of 10.
Elko’s Mayor, Chris Johnson expressed his pleasure to see Kenworth’s business growing and expanding in the city. “I’m glad to see the company in Elko,” Johnson said, “and I’m glad the market is strong enough.”
Donning hard hats and golden shovels, Mayor Johnson joined Mike McKay and Tucker Morgan, Parts Sales Manager for Kenworth, along with leadership from Hughes General Contractors, who is heading up the construction process of the the building, in the ceremonial first dig.
Official construction will begin in the coming weeks. The new facility is scheduled to be completed summer 2018.
